Good news, after upgrading to Kubuntu 13.10 the problem is completely
solved. The headphones work perfectly now.

Hi Raymond,

Its external sound card has a switch for 2.0/7.1 speaker configuration, so I
guess it does.

I noticed if you switch playback profiles multiple times (from 5.1 to
7.1 and back again), it will eventually work properly without crackling.
However, after some time or a restart it breaks again. This problem
occurred also in Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10 and Kubuntu.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: simple-scan
After clicking to start scanning, the scanner starts, it scans to some
length, then stops abruptly. Sometimes it stops scanning somewhere in
the middle of the page, other times it goes correctly to the end of the
page - it seems to be random.
Thanks Ali Onur Uyar (comment #31) for the commands, they made two-
finger scrolling work on my netbook :-) I have Asus Eee PC 1201 NL.
By the way, this bug is also present in System Settings in KDE (tested
in version 4.5.1 on Kubuntu 10.10). When you go to it and choose Input

This bug is also present in Asus 1201NL with BIOS 0205.
When I restart Kubuntu 10.04, it resets BIOS settings and shows 768 MB
of RAM instead of 2048 MB.
