UPDATE: Problem fixed - this is NOT a Samba issue. The problem was caused by the r8169 driver module for my realtek gigabit network card. Problem was resolved by forcing the installation and use of the realtek r1000 driver (v1.05 - off the realtek website). Now transfers are fine under all availa
