This is using 2.6.35-19-generic ... and the system is the most
unstable I have ever known it .
Could be related to the Graphics Driver .. just a guess . as
before this
I was running 2.6.35-14-generic .. and everything was working fine

To recap: without any manually-specified model quirk, nothing works,
and with the model=auto quirk, only stereo playback through internal
speakers works?
That is correct ..
I also have no options appear in the sound menu for surround sound .. on
auto setting (quirk)
( but the options did
"acer-aspire-7730g" instead of "auto" . rebooted and no sound
I also tried it with "acer-aspire- 7730zg" as I was not sure if you had missed
the "z" out
that also did not work.
auto . works - but I have only limited use of the sound module -
with stereo only.
