I too have this issue. On Precise I have installed fglrx through Jockey,
but in system settings>details it still says vesa. I do now know if the
fglrx driver is in fact running, but I have 3D acceleration and glx
gears reports 60fps. Also, I can effectively change color settings VIA
amdcccle.

apperantly it is not just network connection... because now I have a
wired network connection and here is the jockey log
I included multiverse and univers and apt-get updated in attempt to
resolve it, so I tried it with network, and with more repositories

I have now tried to copy an image to the /usr/share/backgrounds folder
and set the same owner and permissions and then set it as background. It
does not show it as my background in lightdm. When I choose the picture
I have to choose it under the "Pictures Folder" in the drop down list.

I also have this problem in 11.10. Pidgin will not automatically
reconnect, but I can manually click the reconnect button, which works.

On my netbook, once I managed to get to a regular KDE desktop,
I clicked on the install aditional drivers to get my broadcom wifi working.
11.10 had this working/ an option to install aditional non free
software if I recall.

could figure out how to get rid of the netbook interface.
