but it seems that /desktop/gnome/remote_access entry is not used by
I found the problem.. i had enabled the elementaryart PPA for maverick.
They haven't fixed it for natty yet. So i uninstalled that and removed
the PPA. Then installed python-minimal again... this time it worked.

I have to run a custom kernel because I run RAID, and the stock Ubunutu
kernels+initrd have never been able to handle having the root volume on
RAID.
The older Ubuntu installs (e.g. dapper, feisty, jaunty) had installers

I ran update manager in natty and then downloaded and installed the latest
mainline kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/
The system froze except for mouse after 15 minutes of browsing with
go
There are only a handful of options which change the actual number of
files created.
These are well documented.
There is no need for you to "forsee" only to RTFM.

This is a maintainer issue.
RTFM.
There is an extremely limited number of configuration switches which
change the number of files created.
This is an education issue with the "support" team, nothing more.

Bug also affects Lenovo G560, after fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 I
could not get to gui login .
At text login I could login but the login process would keep stalling
during loading.
Rebooted out of there and blacklisted intel_ips within the
blacklist.conf file and all appears to working just fin

I don't think this is a dupe of bug 716811. That bug seems to have been
fixed before kernel 2.6.38-5 was released, and I'm having the above
symptoms on my non-Sandy-Bridge i980x system.
I get the kernel oops
When this was bug was first reported 3 years ago, there was no native
driver for my wlan adapter. The ndis-wrapper was the only way to get it
to work and ssb was getting in the way.
At least in my case this bug can be closed, there is now a driver for my
wlan adapter. I don't need the ndis wrapper
