I have a similar problem. I have a system with 4GB of RAM, and more than sufficient space in a swap partition (about 8GB). I can hibernate more than once (at least twice), but if more than a small fraction of the RAM is in use (e.g., say about 2GB or more), then the suspend to disk process hangs.
