Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cwirc

cwirc expects a dsp device. Using the default /dev/dsp gives "Error:
cannot open sound device /dev/dsp" (pulseaudio is using it).

A workaround is to launch xchat with:
padsp xchat

As pulseaudio is installed by default this workaround should be
documented in the package.

The package could offer to change the shortcut on install to a simple wrapper
script that uses padsp if it finds pulseaudio.
maybe with
/usr/bin/pulseaudio --check

** Affects: cwirc (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

** Summary changed:

- does not work with pulseaudio natively
