Do you mind opening up System->Preferences->Power Management and
changing "When laptop lid is closed;" form "Suspend" to "Black screen"?
Then restart and close the lid and re-open it. This should see whether
suspend is an issue or if it's just a lid-close problem.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Hey, guys, I think I just solved it :D
First of all, my objective was to assign the "super" key to show the
main menu.
So, after reading the first post, I looked at the xev output for a
while:
KeyRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x381,
root 0x111, subw 0x
Same here. I can connect to an unsecured network, but not to wpa2
enabled network. I do manage to connect every now and then, but when it
fails, I get the following error in the log.

I have 1RETDRWW (3.23 ), which is the latest T42 bios. I'm 90% sure this wasn't
a problem
before I upgraded the Lucid, so I wouldn't suspect a BIOS issue.

It happens the same here, hp dv2500 Ubuntu 10.4 updated. Changed to
compiz for a while and when I went back to Metacity I simply can not
assign the "super" key to launch the main menu, Any ideas or
workarounds?
