You can try to change, in the settings->General, the option "Display my
last used tabs" to "Display my home page".

To be complete : I booted an archlinux 2009.02 (USB key based version),
and I saw the same problem : shutdown cannot be completed :/
And it is based on a 2.6.28.5 (or 6) linux kernel.
So, there was a bug introduced during 2.6.27 development time which

I use gmail imap with evolution. When I first startup evolution, it
properly refreshes the folders and shows me my new emails. After awhile,
the folders stop refreshing, even when I know I have new mail for it.

After install with Wubi in 8.10 I'm getting this problem as well I
got it into the terminal and got the following error
