Thanks for the idea on changing how copying works. This is not
something we can implement in Ubuntu (which probably has become obvious
due to the age of this bug report), and it needs to go upstream for
consideration and/or implementation. This upstreaming is best done by
you, so you can champion the idea and convince upstream it is worth
doing.
