Update/more info:
It looks like my libxslt1.1 was from hardy-security, and was incompatible with
the libxslt1-dev. Using aptitude gave me the option of downgrading libxslt1.1,
and then libxslt1-dev was happy.
A further apt-get -f dist-upgrade (or aptitude) doesn't try to re-fetch the
libxslt1.1
It still crashes while running glxgears with DRI enabled at 16 bit color depth.

the only way i solve it right now is :
1. go to compiz settings manager
2. disable some plugin such as expo
3. enable it again

Did a fresh reinstall of Jaunty alpha 5, the evtouch package isn't
updated and I still see the problem. I'm hoping now that Xorg is stable
at 1.6 released the evtouch package will be fixed any time now.

Returning to this issue for Jaunty, I find that I *still* cannot get the
theme to apply properly, with or without Compiz. Worse, while it used to
be that the GTK2 component would apply at least some of the time, now
neither the window manager theme or the the GTK2 components apply

mention of brightness in patch 10 and 11. Maybe something completely

Thanks for reopening this bug. The explanation makes sense to me.
Could you please clarify what kind of testing do you expect to be
performed on Jaunty? I know of no way to trigger this crash again even
on my Hardy. Let's assume that I have installed Jaunty and the new
version of Transmission does

I attempted to install compiz "zoom" feature in my ubuntu 8.10 and the whole
screen froze.
I had to force shut down using power button. On reboot I came to login screen
entered my name and password and after few seconds got returned to login screen

since apt cannot mark ubuntu-desktop for upgrade, I decided to remove it! :)
$ sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
and then try to upgrade to jaunty.
$ update-manager -d
an error related to ubuntu-desktop happen... but, the upgrade still
work
