Public bug reported:

I attempted to install compiz "zoom" feature in my ubuntu 8.10 and the whole
screen froze.
I had to force shut down using power button. On reboot I came to login screen
entered my name and password and after few seconds got returned to login screen
again. And as many times I try to login it keeps kicking me back to start.
I attempted to fix my xserver using "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg"
in terminal (accessible through login screen) but without succes. I already
posted a question regarding the resolution to the login issue, but this should
be looked at as a definite bug.
Thank you.
