I have been experiencing this on a regular basis with VMWare Workstation
6.0.4 build-93057. I am running an AMD Phenom 9850+ BE with the 64bit
version of Kubuntu. My kernel version is 2.6.24-19 I am running KDE4
and I am using the Nvidia Xorg driver. I'm glad that the "setxkbmap"
workaround was

I'm having the same problem ("40 EIO 1 Bad Transmission" - "Press Go to
Continue") - using JetDirect like above. It prints fine and resets the
error after the print job. My /var/log/cups/error_log is empty, but
syslog is logging a string of these:

Technically the addition of mixer elements is not a bug but a feature -
ALSA makes no guarantees regarding the stability of (or count of)
element strings. It is possible to add this softvol definition to the
default stanza, but it will need to be tested (namely because not all
cards driven by ICE1
