This bug is solved . I reinstalled Ubuntu 7.10. . Previous Ubuntu was
upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10. After reinstalling Ubuntu, I found no bug
anymore.

I've exactly the same problem with my USB drive and it happens only when
I reboot or when computer being switched off and then switch on again
with the USB drive plugged in then two icons appear. IF I just plug in
my USB drive in already booted environment then there is only one icon
appears as exp

I tried Peter's kernel, but suspend still doesn't work. With the
default /boot/grub/menu.1st, no video comes back at all; if I add the
acpi_sleep=s3_bios kernel parameter I can then see that same yellow INU
as Mats. This is with an X61s, just delivered this past week, BIOS
revision 1.06.

Ok, it just happened again. I was in Desk 3 looking at the Web page in
Firefox. I switched to Desk 4 where I had Screem open and Screem closed
when I clicked on the Desk 4 icon. I actually remember it happening at
that moment at least a couple of the other times that I've experienced
this bug.
I have not run into this issue since updating the firmware available
from Apple. I *believe* it was since the EFI firmware update. I have
recently done three fresh installs (this week) using Ubuntu 7.10
alternate and LiveCD and the keyboard has worked as expected.

Then, press alt+f2 and run the program glipper.

I installed 6.10 last spring and had the same problem, on a Toshiba
Tecra 8000. I am new at Linux but otherwise experienced at computers
but it took 3 weeks of nightly messing around to get past this problem
so I could actually see what I was doing and finish the install.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Large file copies will hard crash the
machine in a matter of minutes. This is over a wired connection. No
wireless card is even installed.

I'll summarise my opinion stated on IRC:
As libgdal1-dev packages ships gdal-config, and the SONAME for the
library is libgdal1.4.0.so.1, I believe the Debian package gets things
right. People are supposed to use gdal-config to get the linking
option, instead of hard-coding "-lgdal".
