I'm also seeing similar breakage with the latest Gutsy update. It used
to work fine on Tribe 5 but now I've seen the same rainbowish effects.
I've finally managed to get back into the vesa driver and the resolution

I get these same error messages if I try to open Synaptics while Update
Manager is running . After it has finished, Synaptics can be used and
these error messages disappear. I believe this one is normal.

I have a D630 and the module-assistant workaround works for me to get
the speakers going (but have external speaker problem where internal
speakers don't mute when using phone jack). Now I have one serious
issue left which is getting the internal microphone working, I need
Skype and I need it bad!

Please don't close this bug again, unless at least one more confirms
this is fixed or a developer believes it is/will be. The options menu is
indeed working and everything else as I fast checked. But the
File->print... crash still exists at least for me.(this is the title of
this bug!)

I tried booting with the all_generic_ide and it didn't change anything.
I never tried changing my BIOS settings, but they are currently set at
RAID / AHCI.

I need to figure out a way to get better logs on this crash. It used to
crash trying to load the module... now, it is probably loading the
module and kernel panicking is my guess.
I will look into it later, but as mentioned using the nv driver is a
less than optimal temporary workaround.
