yeah this error seems to be somewhere in the new kernel (didn't happen
in ubuntu 6.10)
the temporary fix for this, is that you can add the parameter
all_generic_ide to the kernel when you're booting up
At grub menu (on live CD) press F6 then move to the end of the line, and
type all_generic_ide

I'm running gutsy gibson, although I think I've had this on earlier
versions as well. I'm not using desktop effects.

I can confirm this behaviour, also x86-64. In particular, after
enabling all the possible memory columns, all the memory usage seems
sane except for "X server memory" and "Memory", which is, as the
reporter states, 17179869180.0 GB, and this figure is the same across
all processes showing incorrec
Are you positive "chmod" disabled it? I believe powermod may be sourced
in /etc/init.d/powernowd.early, which does not require the file to be
executable. This is what I did in my powernowd instead:

+++ /etc/init.d/powernowd 2007/05/

I've made an 11.84 package that has this patch. I tried uploading it to
the ubuntu-elisp ppa, but was unsuccessful due to not yet being a member
of the launchpad-beta-testers team. I've applied for the group and am
awaiting approval.
In the interim, Matthias, please test the updated package by t

Thanks for reporting these issues in X and helping to make Ubuntu
better. For better tracking purposes, in the future please report each
independent issue as a separate bug report.
It sounds like the principle main issue is that the bulletproof-x mode
was looping and could not be easily shut off.
Strange, this is the first time I've encountered that with Firefox.
Also, why does it happen only intermittently? Non-deterministic
behaviour is troublesome. It isn't an important bug, but it could
indicate some underlying problem with firefox/gnome or even gnome.
