did you ever figure out what caused this? on my laptop, the same
install... it used to work, then it stopped. i had to figure out that it
was the cache as well. i never ran it as root though. i'm always on
broadband so that cache doesn't matter to much possibly, but it is a

crazy. About halfway through the boot-up process, the splash screen
disappears and I see constant, repeating error messages from udevd.

just a small update here. i did have it solved using the
AlwaysRestartServer=true as stated earlier. however it didnt last long.
but on the brighter site. the solution bryce posted works flawlessly. i
used that solution myself. tried every thing i could think of to get x
to crash (just as a test).
I should also add that when hovering the mouse cursor over certain apps
(Firefox, most notably), the mouse cursor changes to the correct mouse
theme I have chosen. When I move the mouse cursor away from Firefox, the
cursor goes back to being the little black cursor.

Sorry, it looks like pinning udev also causes
dmsetup, hal, libdevmapper1.02, and volumeid to be held back. So, I
guess it could be any of those or something about the way they work
together. Maybe it is somehow related to the elimination of dmsetup?

As mentioned before the hang does not cause an oops, and I can still
reboot using ctrl-alt-del. I did get a stack trace with alt-sysrq-t.

Okay, so it's been awhile since I've posted this and I still have
neither found an answer nor received any suggestions or questions.
If any devs are listening, know that I've been battling X in some form

When I try to scan a folder using the "scan with KlamAV" option of the
contextual menu, KlamAV doesn't launch. At the console I get a "sh:
Can't open ScanWithKlamAV" error.
KlamAV appears to be present and the permissions look OK to me:

Im not so sure its the browsers to be honest. Its very odd that a
website will not open with any browsers. For the moment we will leave it
against firefox till i can figure out what to do with it. I will look
into it more on Monday or Tuesday and see what i can come up with.

Here is my FSTAB. My question is what does it mean and how do I change

Okay, thanks Alex, that clarifies things quite a lot. I guess Xterm and
its sisters have repurposed the kfX strings. It might help for
terminfo(5) to clarify this situation (even though it really isn't
ncurses' responsibility to do so, since that's not the original meaning
of those names; still, it

then system stop,but didn't poweroff.
