I seem to be experiencing this problem on Dapper final.
I have a D-link DWL-G510 Revision C1 wireless desktop adapter.
iwconfig uses all of CPU and top shows it is 100% sys.
Trying to do anything with the process (attach gdb, killing it, strace)

I reproduce this bug nearly every time I use my laptop, as it has a
Synaptics Touchpad and is very prone to dragging things accidentally.
Quite often when developing web sites with Firefox, I will accidentally
drag a link, and Firefox will crash.
Luckily, Firefox 2.0 can restore a crashed session.

editing xorg.conf, you leave the driver set to 'ati' but just disable dri.

AGP speed is forced to 8x, try setting it to auto or 4x? (- then the li
didn't notice this bug report before I filed my sync request. Can you
explain why we shouldn't just sync fam from debian. the only change that
remains is really just the libfam0c102 removal. In the debian package is
just a dummy package depending on libfam0 which seems very innocent to
me.

I made an edgy LiveCD and booted the problem machine with it - boots
fine. It looks like the menu.lst that is installed on the system is
correct. Although, I did make one mistake in typing out the UUID in the
original bug report above. I changed the 5th to last character from a c
to a 6.

like i can see the bubbles being rendered. instead of being filled in
fast, it takes about 2 seconds to fill in. everything graphic wise is
slow. for example, hold your cursor over the system menu, and the
bubble that appears should fill in rather quickly, mine takes upwards of
4 seconds

Actually, I originally filed this bug against Dapper... In any case,
installing thunderbird solved the problem permanently for me and I'm not
looking back (took about an hour to copy mail around and configure).
It's not perfect, but it's much more stable and has never crashed my
machine.

Note that this may be a false alarm.
It appears that the quake installer script is looking for a program
called "print" to use in place of "echo". The one installed on my
system, however, has something to do with email and is therefore the
wrong "print".
