I am trying to get rdesktop working with the same symptoms, but I am
running the latest drivers from nvidia.
(II) NVIDIA dlloader X Driver 1.0-9629 Wed Nov 1 19:31:54 PST 2006
So even with the latest version of the drivers doesn't fix the problem.
Am about to try turning composite off.

ubuntu gets the drive to create clicking noises every 20 seconds. But
after i ran hdparm -B 255 /dev/hda it stopped

I have apparently hidden this bug (temporarily) using the workaround suggested
in http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=42873 and mentioned by piero:
Added "acpi=force" to the first kernel line in boot/grub/menu.lst so that it
reads:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-27-686 root=/dev/hd

"Our goal is having eog-ng branch merged in HEAD in the beginning of 2.20
development cycle on March 15th 2007. In terms of components, we must have a
stable version of Core, Printing and Website at this stage."
I am not so sure this will be ready in
I run Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft (i386 for machines with less than 192 MB RAM)
After having used JuK to alter the tags/comments on several Ogg/Vorbis files, I
closed down JuK and opened Rhythmbox 0.9.6. There I went to import the music
files stored in /desktop/music/ and while the tracks were imported
Problem confirmed here too. I have been using the
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf workaround since upgrading to kde 355.
I can also confirm the downgrade fixes the problem.
