I believe I have the same problem, was a showstopper for me as well, I
have an Ati X700 PCIE in my laptop. But the screen did not go blank,
but first displayed lots of vertical lines, then lots of horizontal
lines before giving up and displaying a badly mangled X dialog that X
couldn't be started.
I can confirm that the same has happened many times on my machine.

I can confirm this. They aren't mouse buttons, but the events do appear
on the mouse event interface. I was able to make this work with udev
rules in 5.10 and below, but in Dapper and above, this fails. I have a

I confirm this bug with an nvidia Geforce FX 5200 running the latest
proprietary video drivers in Dapper. I've found the easiest way to fix
it is hit CTRL ALT Arrow key to spin the cube.
The problem is that Xgl doesn't repaint the desktop or anything after the
screensaver deactivates so everythin
This is a problem with the old version of compiz shipping in the Dapper
repositories and with modual dialog boxes. This was fixed in compiz
upstream a long time ago. Syncing compiz to the latest version will

I have no 'end current session'
Maybe I wasn't clear.
I clicked on kmenu, I saw the options 'switch user', 'lock session'
and 'log out..'
The log out option does nothing. I clicked on it but nothing happened.

I tested single user mode and it still fails with kernel
2.6.17-7-generic (single-user mode)

I believe 'end current session' is your logout option. Maybe it should
say logout.

I couldn't suspend to ram anymore. I had "no" problems on dapper. know I
switched to edgy it's broken. /sys/power/state just contains standby. on
2.6.15-26 suspend is broken, too. It can mem, disk, standby, but disk
never worked and mem go to sleep and immediately wake up. di

Yes I can boot kernel 2.6.17-6-686 just fine without problems. The only
problematic kernel is with 2.6.17-7-generic.
