I'm also occasionally seeing this on Edgy. About one out of every 10
boots will result in one (or less often both) of my hard drives not
having DMA turned on (/etc/hdparm.conf had -d1 for both), and very
occasionally one will have multcount set wrong (/etc/hdparm.conf has
-m16).

It is supposed to leave the older kernels there. IMHO this is a safety
feature. You should have 2 kernels in grub to boot to at this time. I am
closing this as it is not a bug but a feature. Thank you.
also if you want to remove the old kernel open synaptic/adept and find
the kernel and click comp
Dapper, and as I stated in the original bug I clicked the search button
while Nautilus was open to my home folder. I can't reproduce now because
I don't have the picture anymore :/

After a fresh install of dapper and installing all of the latest
security updates I noticed that the kernel was as well updated. Grub
then proceeded to add new boot options for the new kernel (and debug)
but left the old ones there

What I did:
After the installation of dapper 6.06 LTS i was not able to access either of my
2 cd rom drives (one is a dvd). both are on seperate ide channels. I tried
