I ran into the same problem yesterday with my fresh Ubuntu Gnome 16.10
on my HP EliteBook 840 G4.
Alt + F1-F6 switched virtual terminals and Ctrl + Alt + F1-F6 did nothing.
And strangely Gnome was running on tty1. A
#sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
helped me out. I set "UTF-8
If possible it could make sense to provide udev rules/systemd jobs for
each action (keep, replicate and move) and for each output (audio,
video, different ports, etc.) so that the user could easily
disable/enable them to change the default behavior.

I tested the current live image you suggested via USB drive. I had to
enable additional package repos and install google-chrome-stable. I did
not add the Dell Xenial/Zesty repos, as I was not sure those are
required with the newer Zesty kernel. I also could not add the Dell

I modified the code to issue commit() calls, which it had not been
doing. It ran to completion, having made over 3 million changes to the
database. Perhaps a really big journal does not work well? Even if so,
I would consider a segmentation fault a bug.

This bug has finally improved in Ubuntu 17.04. There are only 2 errors
left:
# update-mime-database /usr/share/mime
Unknown media type in type 'all/all'

However it is not clear to me which file is responsible for this:

Danish translation missing in ISO files

In my case the bug was triggered by trying to install the driver for an Epson
scanner Perfection V500 Photo.
It is a great scanner, too bad the Ubuntu developers think it is enough to
support HP printers and scanners. Epson provides proprietary Linux drivers,
unfortunately not distribution speci

This is a terrible hack, but I've discovered that the applet will
respect your locale, just not the preference option.
So setting `export LC_TIME=en_UK.UTF-8` in your `.gnomerc` should work,
assuming you have the `en_UK.UTF-8` locale installed and configured.

AFAIK, the app should keep getting the mouse input outside its window so
long as the click/drag started inside the window.
It's unclear if this is the app not receiving drag events beyond its
main window boundaries, or is MirAL window management rules kicking in.

Manually specifying the DNS servers in the connection doesn't seem to
help. I was able to work around this by commenting out dnsmasq in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
Maybe that's a clue as to the cause?
