I think later versions of iTerm2 support OSC 52 which means
set-clipboard will work.

tmux can set the system clipboard in xterm, I don't know if it's
supported in iTerm2. If not copy mode will copy to the tmux clipboard
only.
By default C-Space starts a selection unless you turn on vi keys.
