In the 7300 menu I changed the CW USB keying from RTS to DTR and all is fine. Almost 3 days on this. Thanks to all who chimed in. TLF works as expected. Let's go play radio !! Ed W3NR

Ervin, As I said - the same problem if I connect to rig directly from tlf via USB port, omitting rigctld (hence RIGMODEL=2 isn't the reason) This might be some hamlib and/or tlf condition. When I run rigctl -v I see some disturbing warnings with every 'f' request regarding 'invalid cach
