It sounds like you are having a problem with .Xauthority file under X11.
Do man xauth and you will see what you can do about it. Or more simply,
use su - instead of just su when you switch users remotely.

But you won't buy one for under $3400. Check out some of the lesser vendors that
sell linux based servers: VA, Penguin They may have laptops.
