Hi all--
I rebooted my machine the other day, and now gdm returns error messages
and won't start.
Here's what I've tracked down so far.
-The X server starts
-I get error messages stating that the client is not authorized
to connect to the Xserver

My initial thought is "subnet mask"... have you verified that this is set

You were right on that the automount process' stat was D... once I
removed that process from the startup and it was no longer running, my
disks mounted fine.
I need to learn to read more carefully.

Jeff--
I don't want this to come across as argumentative, so please do not take
it that way..
I would never have thought that DNS had anything to do with mount
either... this is the page that I came across and got that information .

I'm using KMail as well..and am pretty happy with it. Make sure that
you're using KDE2 to get the latest greatest kmail client. I am not sure
if kmail with KDE1 supported multiple clients or not, but the newer kmail
has many more cool widgets, and I like that i can stack my folder level
now too
I've come across this problem, with the kernel barfing up a bunch of hex
output (stack and other information). None of the output gets saved in
any log files , but i did write down the output on
the screen from the last episode. I am assuming that this is a hardware
problem, and from what i've

I tried another NIC last night, and the problem was identical. .
It was another 3c509b, which isn't supposed to have any problems, and i
could try another NIC, but I think i'm going to worry about my router now.

well, i can add my default route now! the problem was that i had the
wrong subnet mask. i have a notebook where I write down all the things i
do to my computer so that i've got a record, and i must have not thought
when i was writing down my subnet mask.
ack!
thank you all SO MUCH for the t

Yeah, I tried that too...just in case, because I know that I had it in my
hosts table before I had to do the reinstall. It didn't help at all. But
thanks for the pointer!

i was just reading over this again, and I am confused on one point. YOu
are correct in that if my gateway is 194.200.10.xxx , then my eth0
interface should be 194.200.10.yyy, and it IS currently that way...well,
that's the intention, but it won't let me add the route for the
194.200.10.xxx
I am
cool...this is something new to try! i'll give it a go tonight and let
you know. :)

Hi all--
Well, I crashed my computer and had to do a new reinstall. I'm coming up
with a strange error message, and my search for information on the
web proved fruitless.
For some reason, I get a "Network is unreachable" error message when I try
to add my default route
/sbin/route add default
groovy...will check the site tonight...USR so i'm not worried about
finding information.

I checked quickly through the archives and saw a small discussion on a

If you check in informit's free library under the web-technologies section

Well..I know that several sites have these books publically available to
browse through them at that site. I don't know what each site's specific
terms are, but they are still offering the book for sale if you like what
you read in the online edition.

hm...i think this may have been my problem...i did read a lot of articles

Well...yes and no. initially, no. i'd tried to use NT's loader like i
had previously done during the 95/NT/linux phase. but that *repeatedly*
didn't work..and I tried various things, like having a data partition in
there,so that it wouldn't be directly "next to" the OS partition.

Hi all--
question about the NT/Linux dual boot...at one point, I had 95, NT and
linux installed, and booting just fine from one harddrive. They were
installed in that order also.
When I decided to clean some house and get rid of 95, and go with NT, and
then added linux...it screwed up my NT pa
ouch!! you're killing me here!! :)
Ok...after telling countless people to check their settings when they tell
me they've got problems, I did not double check mine. I don't know when,
or most of all..WHY I would have changed my routing from my provider
to localhostbut apparently, I did.

I'd suggest an external one (unless you've got no room) because the lights
on an external can do all sorts of groovy things for you...
I personally have an internal, because the last thing I need is to have
another external device attached to my computer!
I remember having a modem

is being sent..copy going into setmail directory, etc. but it really
