Depends on what you want to accomplish. We've had very good luck running ESXi as a server to host guests. Main pain there is that you need a Windoze box to run the Vsphere client to manage the server. Some things can be done via ssh console once you turn it on. VitrualBox is fantastic as a desk

If one is looking at log aggregation/reporting/alerting systems, I strongly suggest looking at Graylog. It is (like ELK) built on top of Easticsearch, but it handles the Elastic management for you. It has a very polished interface and nice dashboard / alerting features. We’re using it internally
