I have the n86 and I have the current version of talks. My issue is
changing the volume. For example, I change the volume to ten on the home
screen so I can hear talks when I am outside. When I go home I change
the volume to 5 on the home screen since I don't need it to be that

Did you check to see if you have a Application specific setting set for the
Home screen for the volume? This would explain what you are seeing.

The softkey being reversed is normal for the Symbian Belle phones. This is
how the new versions of Symbian work. This has nothing to do with Talks.
You could look at the C5 and see if that fits your needs.
