I'm not sure how Talks and the object viewer work, but the smilie may be
an image that is a bit too large for Talks to recognize as an icon. I've
had this issue with JAWS and Windows in the past.

It sounds like what you are getting is a Unicode character code. Sort of
like an ascii character code.

Yes the graphcis labler should and will work just fine witin a text message.
You open it up with Talks long select. then you arrow down to the focus line
with the smily face and press select. This will then bring up another
window. Now arrow down to the smily face and press select. This will
