Hi,
I'm not subscribed to the list, but I do visit the archive from time to
time to see what's going on with the project.
I noticed this thread about a possible GPL violation by the CDEarth people.
This morning as I was reading GrokLaw, I saw this link to a paper by the

Chris,
Would you burn copies before sending them back? Or at least make a
recursive listing. I am curious whether the JSword/BD disk is also an
old version, whether it actually includes the complete source, whether
it is implemented in such a way that it will come back to bite us with

I have written to Software Freedom Law Centre (the Eben Moglen lot), who
as pro-bono dealt with busybox's various rip-offs.
I asked them a) for advise and b) whether we would fulfil the criteria

I have nothing special to say about the subject but the more I think
about this the more I feel that someone should write to the Free
Software Foundation and ask what they think. For example Gimp which is
one of the CDEarth programs is part the GNU project and FSF might be
very interested about thi

I found a nifty little EULA that comes with the CD Earth software. I
haven't seen this before, so I assume it's not linked to anywhere, just
loaded directly from their installer. This is the only license agreement
they provide, no explicit mentions of GPL unless the software itself
mentions it

So, we're actually and legitimately in
a position where we can demand removal, DMCA takedown by the ISP,
all
that good stuff.

If there is no source code (contrary to their claim to me - I still have
the email) then the GPL offers no recourse to them but ceasing of
distribution and no rights to re-start irrespective of whether they want
to be compliant or - unless we grant them this right.
I guess the SFLC (Eben Moglen)
I went ahead and ordered the two Sword-related CDs from CDEarth to check
whether they are in compliance with the GPL. They actually are not, at
least when it comes to the CD with The SWORD Project for Windows and
MacSword. (The Bible Desktop/JSword CD might be okay, since they include
