Hi Tom,
It is the keystroke equivalents that are magic.
The menus after a while are just a help display.
Sub-menus can be used to make things fit on a small display.

Hi Ed,
I'm not convinced that replacing the nebula sliders with a drop-down
menu would be more intuitive although I'm no expert on GUI design.
Bear in mind that non-numerical information needs translations unless
you use icons, potentially causing layout problems. Also drop-down
menus wouldn't fit
I'm suggesting no advanced user section and no plugin GUI.
Seems to me that there is a better way to do this and more.

Hi Thomas and Brian,
I think the way to do this one, as well as make the user interface both more
facile and intuitive, is with drop-down menus.
I put a draft of my idea at takken.us/stellarium, but need to do more to
explain it.
I suggest that the present slide bars are an encumbrance for the
I think the ideal way ahead would be to add an advanced user section.
Something like a hidden interface that is folded by default.
Someone who really needs the extra interface can unfold it and click the
additional button.
Perhaps like the under the hood section on chrome.

So going forward, it sounds like the options are:
1.) Change the main GUI and NebulaMgr/Nebula code (no)
2.) Add a plugin GUI and change the NebulaMgr/Nebula code
3.) Add a plugin duplicating the NebulaMgr/Nebula code
4.) Adjust the plugin code interface. Would still have to change nebulaMgr
to it

Bogdan - thanks for the input. I suspected there was a reason this feature
didn't exist. As the new guy, I never meant to disrespect the current GUI

is awesome! I don't want to make it worse.

Hi Brian,
Perhaps this could be implemented as a plug-in? ("extended DSO
controls" or something like that). Personally I would like some
extended controls particularly for making full use of the new NGC data
catalogue. (Galaxy display based on surface brightness for example,
which would certainly

Maybe we should consider working from the same branch, but I'm not sure.

Hi,
Sounds a good idea to me. Worth noting that with the new NGC DSO
catalogue from Prof Wolfgang Steinicke we'll be able to filter on
galaxy surface brightness as well as magnitude (and other fields too,
if desired). Have a look in Nebula.cpp from the new NGC catalogue
branch if interested.

Hello everyone, I'm new and very excited to be working on Stellarium! I
have an idea for my first activity.
Right now, in the Sky and Viewing options "Sky" tab, there is a single
slider for "Nebulas". Not only is the term "Nebulas" a little misleading,
I believe, but it isn't specific enough. M
