It would be nice if someone tried virt-manager besides virt-viewer and
virsh.

Yes.
Current binary downloads available at spice-space.org and other sites
have virt-viewer, remote-viewer and virsh, but no virt-manager.

Ah, virt-viewer used to default to a gtk+2 build, this was changed recently
to a gtk+3 build, this explains why you needed these. You could try
building --with-gtk=2.0
