Upgrading from kernel 2.4.16.6 to 2.4.16.11 fixed Sane, including the crashing
problem on snanner power-off.
1 minor issue left:
xsane works, but not the icon does not because the icon uses a (bad) command of
/usr/bin/xsane /dev/usb/scanner0
This needs to be changed to just:
/usr/bin/xsane

I upgraded my kernel from 2.4.12 to 2.4.16 and now my Epson 1640su (usb)
no longer works. The icon for Xsane comes on when I turn on the scanner,
and the entire machine locks solid if I power down the scanner. Does
anyone have any idea what is causing and/or any fix besides downgrading the

Simple, use a shell script. I pass an argument for how many pages to scan; I
haven't figured out a "scan until empty" method. If no one posts a script I'
