Thanks to everyone who offered help. I was able to get everything working by modifying my modules.conf to be more like it was under 8.0:
mdk 8.1 modules.conf relating to scsi: probeall scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx ide-scsi probeall aic7xxx aic7xxx ide-scsi alias scsi0 aic7xxx What modules.conf has in it now that it works: alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx alias scsi_hostadapter1 ide-scsi alias scsi0 aic7xxx I have no clue what that really means, but it works now. If anyone would like me to try something to see what the result is I would be happy to help. Thanks, Michael
