Our info indicates that this (and many other) Visioneer machines are
RTS8801 chipset. Sane has an RTS8891 backend, it might be possible to
modify that to work with the older chipset. Not sure if it is worth
the time, reverse engineering can be fun, but also very frustrating.

Perfect! I hope Nicolas Martin will give his opinion also, since he is
working on the pixma backend and I do not have experience with the
ImageCLASS devices but will take a look.

Unfortunately, the pixma backend you're using, probably coming with your
Linux distribution, is too old (0.15.0), MF3110 was declared but under
an incorrect Pixma class of protocol, so trying here to use a wrong
Pixma protocol (as seen in the d420 message, wrong length).
This has been fixed since
Try getting a usb sniffer log of a low resolution small scan, using this tool:
http://www.pcausa.com/Utilities/UsbSnoop/
Then we can see if it looks anything like the epjitsu machines.

(I will try to merge "CanoScan 5000F support?" with the 4200F/5600F-part of
"any sniff volunteers unsupported Canon scanners: 4200F, 5200F, 9900F,
9950F" and
"To owners of CanoScan 5600F: please volunteer for testing" here.)
CanoScan 4200F, 5000F, 5600F seem to use similar protocols:

Dear SANE people,
in an (admittedly rather old - 2003) post on this forum I have seen that
somebody (Terry Boldt) was working on the Visioneer OneTouch 8920 USB
backend. Of course, Terry can no longer be reached at the E-mail address he
used back then. I have one of those scanners and would be

Hello, all!
So, any chance anyone is working on this? If nobody is working on
this, I'd like to start but I'll definitely need a crash course in
scanner driver programming and to what I should pay attention. Or
maybe somebody is aware of a similar driver that I can adjust?
Thanks,
Catalin
