I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for SANE-supported scanners with a document-feeder and decent scanning-speed that doesn't jam a lot, etc. It needs to be able to scan A4 documents in a few seconds per page (300 DPI color is fine). Our current scanner takes 20-30 seconds per color

I am very, very happy with the Fujitsu fi-6130. Fast, quiet, small, reversed roller system prevents jams, very well supported in SANE CVS version. Not cheap, but less than your HP :) If your needs are a little less, you might be able to find the previous model (fi-5120C) around on clearance or refu
