file in /etc/sane.d to point at /dev/usb/scanner0, because I am using
devfs and there is no such device here as /dev/usbscanner. But after this
it does f

Hello Greg et al.,
I'm afraid I'm back with another problem. I tried to run the scanner as
UID 0 again and got this new error:

device `epson:0x378' is a Epson flatbed scanner

This is a limitation all parallel port scanners have when used with Sane.
You already know the reason for this: Sane uses the IO ports and not
the device file to talk to the scanner.
As long as you trust everybody who's using your computer, you can just
make the frontend(s) you are using setuid ro

Hello,
I got my hands on the Epson Expression636 which comes with both SCSI and
parallel ports. W/o SCSI on my RedHat8 box, I tried the parallel

Hi,
Does not work yet. I have the same scanner :(
Keep a close watch on this list though,
Rene Rebe is the developer and is working hard,
if you want to be a tester, check Rene Rebe. (Search this list)

I am a somewhat of a newbie to Linux (about 6 months) and have been trying to
get Mandrake 8.2 to recognize my HP Scanjet 5100c scanner. I have gone to
Control Center and selected my scanner from the list provided. Then I get
the message that it is configured and I can run it from
