I read your post on the usb group, and your suspicion that this problem
is caused by the USB subsystem is very likely correct. The scan times
you are listing are de

Can you please give some examples of scan times with information
about the size and the resolution of the scans.

I've found the Ricoh IS410 in the list of sane backends (IBM backend).
Is it compatible with the ibm2456? Can anybody tell me where to find
the oem manual of this scanner?

I have the following problem with an UMAX SuperVista S12 scanner under
Slackware 8. I used to have this scanner running previously with
installations of LFS and SuSE 7.2 on this same box. sane-find-scanner sees
the scanner perfectly on /dev/sg0 and /dev/sga but other programs such as

It is taking about 10 times longer to scan (even in preview mode) in
Linux than it does in W2K. I've tried the 2.4.8 and 2.4.13 kernels,

DPI Width Max (x)

295 2.85
290 2.89

I have a Umax Astra 610S.. Seems I've had all kinds of troubles.. but here's
what I just found.
In the Geometry window from Xsane, I can set the Y variation to anything and it
will scan at 300 dpi.. but as far as the X variation, it seems I can only go
2.80 units (according to the Xsane Geom
Hi again.

the details to end that.
I'm running RH 7.2, Kernel 2.4.9-13, using a BusLogic SCSI host BT-930 (SCSI-2

The chain on this bus is as follows:

Howdy folks..
Ok.. I took back the HP ScanJet 4300Cse yesterday and borrowed a UMAX Astra 610S
scanner instead, being that I'm needing to import images in for this lady's site
in a rush. Anyhow.. I get it home and plugged into my BusLogic card and
everything checks out ok. I scan a few images at
