Forgot one thing in my previous plea for help. I also have a ide cdr device in this machine and whenever I try to access the scanner I do note a: ide-scsi: The scsi wants to send us more data than expected - discarding data ide-scsi: transferred 1 of 2 bytes I tried to do a "rmmod ide-scsi" but

I am using an older HP4c scanner attached with a Buslogic BT-958 on a RedHat 7.2 system. These are the rpms this version of redhat installed: sane-frontends-1.0.5-2 sane-backends-1.0.5-4 The scanner is recogined by the scsi controller at bootup with: Vendor: HPModel: C2520A
