The driver has little to no means to find out if the firmware has been
downloaded before. To be on the safe side, it would have to be downloaded
before every scan. This is clearly not desirable.

my experience with a HP ScanJet 6350 is that it can not be used with
SCSI and USB at the same time. If the scanner finds a SCSI connection,
it is not available on the USB. Try to unconnect the scanner from SCSI
and try it with your USB box alone.

I mean, it is just a fork and a call to the acerfirm utility.

list it as an hp scanner . all i get is
generic device found on sga
and ./scanimage -d hp:/dev/sga produces a SCSI timeout after a few
minutes. i can run "find-scanner" and it give me the correct output (HP
