Sorry to say that this also didn't work. I had already downloaded
2.7.2 and upgrading it didn't work, so I reinstalled 2.7 (form zip
file on hard disk) and did an upgrade from that which took some time,
but the same problem was repeated. So, I will have to reinstall 2.7
from .zip file again t

I just realized I could probably fix your problem (and many other people's
similar problem)
by releasing a slightly newer version of SAGE. So I'm releasing
sage-2.7.2.1 which should fix the notebook problem on vmware
transparently. Just do "sage -upgrade" once sage-2.7.2.1

Don't worry this is easy to fix by setting the notebook admin
password. I'll send instructions later...
