For one thing the byte ordering is different. If you know
the blocksize you could use `dd' with the conv=swab option
to transfer the file from tape to disk.

Is it possible to to run two X servers on the same box
using different screen resolutions ? I'd like to get the
server on screen :1 to always start at 1024x768 without

Some modems ( with Conextant chipsets ) are supported. Take a look at Marc's
website : http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/
Do an lspci -vv to see what chipset you have.
