when i use emacs to edit a file it creates a backup file with the same
name and a '~' at the end of it. the original file is the one with the
'~'. my question now is, is there anywasy to force emacs to create more
files with '~' at the end. say for instance i do:
emacs test, edit that file and th
when i first got dsl set up Bell Atlantic was giving out static ip's.
recently two of my friends decided to get dsl, but BA stuck them with
dynamic ip's over pppoe. BA provides support for windows and MAC OS, but
not for linux... i am pretty sure that the same can been done by using one
of the ppp
recently i have been seeing a lot of strange messages in my log files.
shoul i be worried that there are entries like the one below or is this
typical tcp/ip behavior?

i like the setup that USWest gave you. i wish BA had done the same in our
area, but what can you expect when dealing with one of the baby bells. for

i had the same problem...
apparently sendmail is case sensative. try using this instead:
define(`confPRIVACY_FLAGS', `authwarnings,noexpn,novrfy')
then
m4 /etc/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart
that should do it.

Westell externel modem, and have been using it for about 6 months now. i
avodided getting the internal modem because a how-to i read stated that
internel cable/dsl modems were not compatible with linux (no drivers). i

i am trying to write a little shell script that will
update my dns on a remote machine every 10 minutes,
using nsupdate. the problem is I need to get the IP
address of my dsl connection, but i can't seem to find
a way to parse the output from ifconfig. my connection
uses PPPOE. i would be very app
just type hwclock --set --date=newdate
where newdate is in the format 11/8/99 10:00:00
make sure you use military time. for instance 6 pm today is 18:00:00
so just run
/sbin/hwclock witht the proper arguments and all should be well. let me know
