I had a similar problem. If the cdrom is actually a dvd or cdrw, you may
be having hardware compatibility issues. I was forced to remove my DVD
and replace it with a cdrom drive. Redhat merely said there were
hardware compatibility issues. When I changed the drive, I was able to
install.

Dear all,
I experienced a lot of troubles with my computer in the upgrading of the
OS RH7.0 -> RH7.1.
The CD-Rom stops the autobooting after hde detection
failure, so the upgrade is not longer possible, and also the kernel 2.4.x
seems to be unable to manage the ATA-100.
The my PC is a Duron 750M
