[RE-wrenches] Schott solar panel warranty info

2018-11-09 Thread David Coale
Does anyone have a good contact for Schott Solar warranty claims? Is this still possible? I just changed inverters to one with optimizers and see that I have a lot of bad panels. On closer inspection there are quite a few bad solder joints that are the causing the problems. Thanks, David

2015-10-05 Thread David Coale
Hi Wrenchers, I have found on the older panels, especially the AstroPower line, the problems tend to be bad solder joints. This shows up as a series resistance. As such, the open circuit voltage and short circuit current will read good. It is not until you put an external load on the panel t

Hi Wrenchers, Has anyone used the SolarApp+ application for permitting solar? It is just getting started and sounds very promising and could greatly reduce the soft costs of installations. More info can be found here: https://solarapp.nrel.gov/ David ___

Hi Wrenchers, I am trying to get an old Trace SW5548PV inverter system up and running again. This inverter is gird tied only and does not have any batteries. While I am familiar with the battery based systems, I am not familiar with this system and the menus quite are different. Right now,

[RE-wrenches] PowerWall 3 in an off-grid system?

Hi Wrenchers, Has anyone used a PowerWall 3 as an ad-on to an existing off-grid system? Tesla says they do not support off-grid, but if the existing off-grid system is the “grid”, then this should work. David ___ List sponsored by Redwood Alliance

2024-12-21 Thread David Coale via RE-wrenches
Way to complicated. The “half wave load” is as described earlier. It is a cheap way to get a hair drier (or other heater) with a three-way switch to have air, half power and full power. The half power routes the hot side through a diode so that the heating element only get half power. Full p

[RE-wrenches] Obscure PG&E NEM 3 question for CA Wrenchers

This is an obscure PG&E NEM 3 related question for the California Wrenchers, since no one out side CA - PG&E land might be able to answer this. I have a client with a 25 year old grid-tied system. When PG&E went to smart meters they declined (worried about EMF) and have been able to hold on to

I am having the same issue, but it is with an SMA inverter. In my case it happens when it is raining and clears up when it dries out. I can see there are some bad cells, but they are right next to the edge of the panel so a moisture problem would show up this way. Good to know about sealing t
