We've donated old but still working inverters to our local city college with
good results. We also donated our time to help set the equipment up so the
students have a working setup to experiment with.

HI All,
I"ve got a very large off grid system,, could be 30kw of inverter
yea I know crazy big.
My question is about which inverters to use, Outback 10 stack or SMA
sunny island.
comments, pros/ cons.
thanks,

Hi Wrenches,
How does one determine how much imbalance can be tolerated on a 3 phase system?
I'd like to feed 2 SMA SB5000s at 277 VAC into a 480 VAC panel
instead of 1 13 KW Solectria at 480VAC as the PV system is only 9500
Watts STC. The main on the backfed service panel is 600 A. But I'm
Jay,
I did some design work recently for a larger capacity system. You need a
"multi-cluster" box for more than four Sunny Islands, which would add some
complexity and cost. I liked all the auxiliary control options possible
with the SMA - such as controlling relays for multiple AC inputs.

With regard to the sunny island - what is the "best" kluge to address the
120/240 issue? (IMHO - the best would be for SMA to deliver 120/240
output). We just did a system with a pair of outback PSX-240 transformers
to step down the SB-7000 inverter (7.2kw PV) to 120 VAC to allow it to sync

Hi Jay
I have not had experience with the sunny boy island. but I have had with the
Outback.
In my case I would go with outback. The capability of the FNDC would make my
decision. I have done a five inverter stand alone 6 yr ago (maybe seven), and
it is still working fine. Same batteries. I
I have heard the 6kW imbalance rule. However when I spoke with the area
Engineer from the Utility, he said he would not be at all concerned with 10%
imbalance. in fact unless I was to exceed 20% not to worry. The system was a
800 amp 480 volt. He of course said my concern is more where I fee
MessageMost state solar incentive programs are limited to new equipment. I
don't recall if used equipment qualifies for the federal tax credit. Perhaps
someone on this list can advise.
Some good people who can use new and used equipment are the Rahus Institute
