I would be cautious in purchasing dry product for the reasons you outline.
Dry charge product has it's place and is a definite benefit when shipping to
remote locations where transit time / time in customs often exceeds four (4)

You might talk with Roy at RAE Storage Battery in Berlin CT. He is one
of the few distributors of Surrette Batteries that I know that do this.
Surrette does ship him the batteries dry and he fills and heats them

I think it would change little as the shipping weight would be about the
same, I am assuming they would ship the acid with the batteries and you have
to do the commissioning and charging.
