I was wondering if anyone had a source for 24 or 48 VDC "depth gauges" that could be used in a cistern or shallow well. A SCUBA depth gauge on the wrist is fairly accurate. It would seem like a signal could be sent electronically though a wire and be read outside the tank. I've never heard of o

There's an Arduino project that uses the same method but uses an aquarium pump and an electronic pressure sensor. The advantage is you get constant data over the network and you can use a relay to disable to the pump at predetermined depths. http://www.practicalarduino.com/projects/water-tank-depth

I agree with Windy and this article, the electric sounders can be finicky. I've never tried the airline method, but some well folks from Texas taught me to use an inverted plumbing fitting on a string. When it hits the water you can feel it on the line, because the small pocket of trapped a

For those Wrenches that work with deep-well water pumping installations, the attached guide is useful to file away for later use. Windy sent it to me, and it has three options for determining the depth of water in a well. I taped a 1/4" plastic irrigation tube to the
