best solution I have experienced is a portable vintage Jacuzzi J300-B,
1/3 HP, 115 VAC, 5.6 A, manufactured by Jacuzzi Research, Inc. in

Well it seems perverse, but if the warm water sat for an hour in the
toilet before the flush, most of the heat would be paid back into the house.

I used to use bromine, but it irritated my skin. I switched to a product called
Clearwater Blue. Its active ingredient is copper sulphate. I add a cap full
every week. It keeps the water clear for a couple of months and is gentle on
skin. Highly recommend it. Available from Spa Depot.
