[RE-wrenches] Advice needed on upsizing a battery & grid interactive inverter stack

2010-08-06 Thread Mick Abraham
Yo, Mechanics~ A client is considering a "biggest ever for me" battery based power system. They will probably scale down their ambitions once the cost realities settle in but for now they've asked me to look for battery based inverter systems which can scale bigger than a triple stack of Xantrex X

Omega Engineering.  http://www.omega.com/pptst/5TC.html You must be careful about the thermal conductivity of the attachment method.  These pads, part number is TAP, are made of Kapton, and provide some level of thermal insulation.  I have some on my array that are still in place after two yea

3m has a line of "double stick tapes called VHB: very high bond. The adhesion is very strong; these materials are use by commercial glaziers to stick glass onto the exterior of buildings. Some of the tapes are very thin so they would not slow the heat flow into the sensor very much. If your temp s

If you want to mount it once and not take it off ever again, why not use a good polyurethane caulk like Sikaflex? No VOCs, no acetic acid. You could hold it in place with electrician’s tape while it cures which should be less than 12 hours. To be 100% sure about using any sort of adhesive, you mig

I second Dana's suggestion.  We've used high-temperature foil tape on PV here (for attaching temp sensors), and it's been working for years.  I'm aware of two grades: the kind with soft sticky foam; and the type with a moderately solid (but pliable) adhesive ours was gray in color).  We use the lat

Have you tried the aluminum foil type of duct tape with the peel off wax protective paper over the adhesive. It seems to be virtually impervious to heat or cold, though I have not tried to apply it to the back of a PV module. I keep it on the raft for all sort of repairs that get very hot & wet.

Hello Wrenches, Does anyone have any good ideas for mounting thermocouples or RTD's to the back of modules for cell temperature measurements? I've seen electrical tape used (obviously the results were terrible), thermally conductive epoxy from Omega Instruments ($$) used, some kind of foil tap
